...Or on second thoughts, just dress like them. A recently converted feminist, I for one am all for the revival of androgyny, female cab drivers and builders and any other task's that allow the scales of equality to become a bit more... equal. So today when I came across Complex's feature on '25 Hot Women Who Dress Like Men', I couldn't help but feel a little bit proud that women are actually being appreciated for dressing like men. The fine lines of gender these days combined with the general blurry lines of fashion have resulted in both sexes essentially swapping roles, well clothes at the very least and why the hell not?
We've come a long way from the mini skirt and development of contraceptive pill in the sixties, through to the power dressing of the eighties to today where a cropped pixie haircut and women wearing boxers (they are extremely comfortable) are all socially acceptable notions. The countdown, which features the likes of models Celia Ammerman and Freja Beha alongside DJ Venus X, somewhat highlighted to me that women are not always seeking to make a statement in one way or another. Behind it all, I'd like to think these women who are often in the limelight are just seeking a bit of comfort within their clothing because lord knows there is nothing worse than walking around all day pulling up your lycra tights that have either lost their waistband or are desperate to prove that gravity does in fact exist. So hats off to you lovely bunch of chappettes (I think I just made that up), lets show the boys we can still be sexy, if not more when hot women all over the world dress like men. Think it's time I dug out the old Timberland's and dungarees and played some Aaliyah.
