Coming to you live from LCM

Behold a couple of non-blurry snaps that hail from my I-pad (I too used to laugh at people who did this but then I got all tech and Apple got the better of me) representing Day 1 of London Collections: Men. For the past god knows how many seasons I have been turning up to fashion week - men and women's - and always feel a sense of disappointment apart from the few minutes when the shows are actually on. Now I know Suzy Menkes covered this in 'The Circus of Fashion', but every now and then we all need our own rants in order to feel something is well and truly off the chest.

Menkes (who's been looking ever so sweet today) was not wrong when she described it as circus. Whilst I have been retiring my poor feet in the press lounge at the Hospital Club during the the shows my ears have managed to eavesdrop on complete and utter, dare I say it, shit.

Actually, there are a limited number of people who actually know what they are doing or in fact why they are here and you would not be shocked to know that everyone is a blogger (vom) waiting to take advantage of the free champagne and Lavazza. It is as if everyone got dressed up and in a sleepwalking haze decided to head to town to be photographed outside the venue. Not too sure if anyone actually likes the clothes or even wants to see them when there is some celebrity sat on the front row but hey who cares. There is only so many times you can slyly perve on David Gandy or check out just how high Tinie Tempah's ankle swingers are before insanity kicks in.

The only dude I have been relatively interested in is sat next to me, working on deadline for The Times and he is too busy to talk - rightly so. As I write, I have just overheard someone mention the 'Jimmy Shoo party' later on (typo intended) and the only conclusion left is that men's jeans have become more tighter than in previous years.

That said, I cannot wait for my last show of the day, Agi & Sam where I am sure I will be one of a few making notes. I don't think day two will be any different but I'll keep you posted. I know the actual collections will be enough to see me through.
